A “fitter” is the component that a lamp shade uses to attach it to the lamp body. there are three types of lamp fitters: spider fitters; uno fitters; clip-on fitters; 1. spider fitters with harp this is the most common type of fitter for table and floor lamp shades. (bonus: at lamps plus, we include it free with each purchase.) 2. uno shade. Choose a shade with a shape that follows the general contours of the lamp. square lamps look best with square shades and round lamps look best with round shades. a shapely lamp can take a shapely shade. an interesting alternative is to repeat the shape of the vase stand (as opposed to the vase shape) in the shade.. Lamp shades are sized by measuring cross the diameter at the bottom of the shade - so if the shade diameter measures 16" across the bottom, then it is know as a 16" shade. as a very rough guide to working out the size of shade you require, measure the height of your table lamp from the bottom of the base to the top of the lamp stem just below.
